Podcast With City Council Candidate Michael Guccione

The Boulder City Podcast and Boulder City Social have joined forces to present a series of podcasts with candidates for the City Council of Boulder City. In light of the lack of public forums during the pandemic, we hope that these podcasts will help voters meet the candidates, understand their views and opinions, and guide their votes in the upcoming election on April 6. If no one achieves 50 percent of the vote on April 6, the top four vote getters will be involved in a runoff in June.

Michael Guccione has lived in Boulder City for 10 years. A native of Southern California and a veteran of the U.S. Army, Guccione spent the bulk of career in the automotive industry, helping to revive struggling auto dealerships in the New York City region. Now retired, he stays active as a business consultant and angel investor. As a member of city council, Guccione pledges to support local businesses and reasonable growth, preserving historic locations, speaking for the community and making Boulder City better.

This is the final podcast in the series as only two candidates have either failed to respond or declined to participate. We’ll resume the council candidate podcast when and if four finalists are determined following the April 6 election. Good luck to all candidates.

Paul Bageman has been a permanent resident of Boulder City since 2017. He’s a veteran of the U.S. Navy and has been involved in commercial aviation for over 20 years. His impetus for running for the City Council of Boulder City has been the discord he feels that the council endures and believes his independent voice will help the city get back on an even keel and consider the important things in town—the welfare of the residents, the concentration on slow growth, support of small business and the respect for the historical buildings in the city.

Sherri Jorgensen has lived in Boulder City more than 20 years, moving here with her family from her native Henderson, so her childre could go to the excellent schools in town. Now that her children are grown and out of school, Jorgensen is turning her attention to the town she loves. She has participated in many organizations in town, including the Housing Allotments Committee that is crucial in establishing the slow growth of Boulder City. As the mother of a child with Downs Syndrome, she has volunteered and served with several organizations focused on that issue. As a council member, Jorgensen wants to focus on the good in the city.

Today’s podcast features Matt Fox, whose father owns Fox’s Smokehouse BBQ, one of the most successful of the recently opened small businesses in town. Fox has a long history in food-and-beverage, working for some of the larger food distributors in the country. He joined his father a couple of years ago and he moved his family to Boulder City, where he used to spend his summers while growing up in Southern California. He has three children in Boulder City schools and wants to sink his family roots deep into Boulder City. He’s running for city council to maintain what he loves about the small town of Boulder City.

A two-year resident of Boulder City, Christian Clinton pledges to work tirelessly to to preserve the community and help it recover from the pandemic. The general manager of the restaurant in the Art Houz in Las Vegas, Clinton has had a long career in food-and-beverage and believes the organization necessary in that field will translate well to city government. He says he wants to work towards preserving the past for the future but working with the community to implement ways that keep Boulder City moving forward.

Zack Cummings may be the youngest candidate for City Council in Boulder City in 2021. He moved to the city as a child in 2007 and went through the city’s school system, graduating from Boulder City High School. He’s familiar with the town’s benefits, backs the slow growth ordinance, supports the police and is passionate about legalizing the use of off-highway vehicles (OHVs)  on the Boulder City streets, believing that it would increase tourism in the city. Podcast With Incumbent Council Member Judith Hoskins

Today’s podcast is with the only incumbent in the race, Judith Hoskins. She was appointed to the position in November 2019, filling the seat vacated when Kiernan McManus was elected mayor. Hoskins has been in Boulder City since 2001 and has been active in the community for all those years, serving as the president of her homeowners association for 16 years. She retired from the Defense Department after 30 years in the federal government. She has pledged accessibility during her term as a member of the city council and during her campaign. This week, Boulder City resident Tanya Vece takes the mike. Vece is a medical professional who has volunteered with the Boulder City Chamber of Commerce for various events and received the Goldie Begley Energizer Award presented by the Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, she served on the board of the Boulder City Museum and Historical Association and was a volunteer turned paid consultant for the Dam Short Film Festival. This week, Boulder City resident Greg Deaver. After moving to Boulder City more than three years ago to enjoy the small town atmosphere, Deaver says he was disturbed by plans of the previous council to encourage more development. He fully supports the slow growth ordinance and wants to see the city council to work together for the betterment of the city.

This week, Boulder City resident Charles Bullen sits down for a chat about his candidacy for the City Council of Boulder City. A veteran of the United States Air Force, Bullen moved to Boulder City in 2008 and is now a supervisor at Hoover Dam. He wants the city to do more to support small businesses and develop a master plan as a path to the future.
